Jerry LaVanture Receives Lyle Spalding Award
Jerry LaVanture, CASD technology director, received the 11th annual Lyle Spalding Award for Leadership  in Educational Technology. He was recognized for his leadership and innovation in building collaboration between Crawford AuSable School District and Roscommon Area Public Schools and for encouraging the use of data and technology in the classroom. The award is given by the COOR ISD.

Region II Superintendent of the Year
Superintendent Joe Powers was named Region II Superintendent of the year. Bob Alger, on behalf of MASA (Michigan Association of School Administrators), presented Superintendent Powers with the award, stating, "Joe earned this through his effort and dedication to enriching the lives of the children in our community."

 COOR Area Talent Search Awards
 Thirty-three COOR-area eighth grade students earned ACT scores above the average scores attained by college-bound high school juniors and seniors. Of those 33, 11 are GMS 8th graders.

Fourth Graders Earn Summer Scholarships
One hundred-five fourth graders at Grayling Elementary School earned scholarships to attend the week-long academic camp at Kirtland Community College sponsored by the COOR Intermediate School District. The students had to earn scores of Proficient or Advanced in reading and mathematics in order to qualify for the scholarship.
